On October 2, 2024, Dennis Jansen was quoted in a KBTX interview on grocery store shortages resulting from the recent port worker strike.
As news of the the port workers’ strike from October 1 spread, panic buying on grocery staples was noted in grocery stores throughout BCS.
However, long term shortages are more likely to affect imported goods like perishable produce, rather than domestically produced items. Jansen said, “Immediately, there’s not all that big of an effect you see at the grocery stores because people want to buy the products they like.”
