The Business-Cycle Index rose at an annualized rate of 4.3% in August, down slightly from the revised growth rate for July. The unemployment rate remained at 2.9% in August, a full percentage point lower than the state and national rates. Nonfarm employment dropped slightly in August relative to July’s employment. On a year-to-year basis, employment has grown 2.9%. Real taxable sales also declined between July and August, but are up 6.1% from August of 2017.
