Sarah Zubairy Selected as Chancellor's 2021 EDGES Fellow

Summary: PERC Professor Dr. Sarah Zubairy, has been honored as a Chancellor’s Enhancing Development and Generating Excellence in Scholarship (EDGES) Fellow for 2021.
 
Funded by Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp, EDGES Fellowships were launched in 2019 to honor, incentivize, and boost mid-career faculty at the associate or early full professor rank who are making significant marks in their discipline.
 
Quoted from the press release, “The recognition highlights Texas A&M’s focus on supporting, retaining, and recognizing faculty with significant and sustained accomplishments and the promise of continued high-impact scholarship.” This year, thirteen distinguished faculty from across Texas A&M University were selected.
 
Zubairy’s research focuses on empirical macroeconomics and monetary economics, with a particular focus on fiscal policy related issues.  Her work is heavily cited in the profession, and her three most cited papers are on estimates of fiscal multipliers, a measure of how government fiscal policy impacts the economy and specifically GDP.  Her latest paper, “Business Cycle Implications of Firm Market Power in Labor and Product Markets,” along with coauthor Sami Alpanda, analyzes the business cycle implications of firms having oligopsony power in labor markets, as well as oligopoly power in product markets.
