KXXV Interviews Dennis Jansen on Airport Travel and Employment

Apr 21, 2021
Summary: As part of a story on local travel and recent changes employment growth, Dennis Jansen spoke to KRHD News on Monday, April 19, 2021.
Except for a decrease caused by February’s historic winter storm, local air travel continued on its path to recovery in March. The count of travelers out of Easterwood Airport in March 2021 were 63% of the March 2019 count.
“We’re currently doing better, in a sense, if you look at just this ratio of current travel versus travel two years ago…we’re doing better than nationwide,” said Jansen. Nationally, March air travel counts were 48% of count for March of 2019.
Employment in different local industries is also improving. Industry employment numbers reported by PERC show that Trade, Transportation and Utility; Government; and Education and Health Service industries have seen the best recovery to date. “If you look at these different industries, you know some of them are basically very close to where we were at the beginning of the pandemic.”
The story also reports on recent changes in the Hospitality industry.
