KBTX Interviews Dennis on Impact of Pandemic on Restaurant Industry

May 14, 2021
Summary: Dennis Jansen was interviewed as part of a story that aired on KBTX news on the struggling food service industry, along with one restauranteur’s struggle to keep his business open.

Despite local and nationwide loan programs like the Paycheck Protection Program, the restaurant industry has been hit especially hard due to pandemic-related policies and shut-downs.“[Pre-pandemic numbers] indicate that about 600,000 businesses closed – that’s a lot – and that’s nationwide. In the last year because of the pandemic, 800,000 businesses were closed.”

Last fall, PERC created a two-part survey that assessed how local businesses in the College Station-Bryan area were handling the pandemic. The survey includes information on business operations, employment, and revenues.

The interview aired on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
