Dennis Jansen Discusses Employment Challenges on KBTX

Dennis Jansen spoke to KBTX news on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, on the most recent drop in the unemployment rate as well as the current employment challenges businesses face.
The most recent issue of Economic Indicators reports a significant drop in the College Station-Bryan MSA’s unemployment rate from 5.0% in June to 4.4% in July. “The data tells us things are improving,” said Jansen. “...The Delta variant is slowing our path to recovery,” the article quoted.
Despite now having the third lowest unemployment rate in Texas, many local businesses are still having trouble filling openings. “Either it’s a pay issue or it’s an issue of people who have changed their mind about their willingness to work before or after COVID, or after experiencing COVID and everything that’s happened. And so the labor force participation has actually declined,” said Jansen.
