Carlos Navarro Awarded NABE Seminar Scholarship

Summary: Carlos Navarro, a senior research associate at PERC, has been awarded a scholarship to attend the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) Foundation Economic Measurement Seminar, to be held August 31 through September 2, 2020.
The seminar will feature presentations on economic statistics and analytical techniques, and how they factor into business decisions, economic modeling, and influence policy debates.
Having joined PERC in the spring of 2018, Mr. Navarro is a graduate of the George Bush School of Government and Public Service and the University of Texas-Pan American. His current research focuses on local-level economic indexes, migration, and health economics.
His latest working paper, “The Effect of Public Health Insurance on Criminal Recidivism,” coauthored with PERC Post-Doctoral Research Associates Erkmen G. Aslim and Han Yu, along with Murat C. Mungan, studies how increased access to medical care through the Medicaid expansion of the Affordable Care Act affects ex-offenders’ recidivism rates.
